4th Offical Day At Marriott

Albany Marriott
Chat's Newly Renovated Dining Room

Yesterday October 27th was another experiential day for me and the LMP team. When we had 1st entered into the Marriott we had to clock in to record our daily hours and soon after, the whole team got split up into different departments into the hotel. Sandy and I were marked down as a Market Server and we was greeted with our positions by the Hostes Melissa. She then introduced us to, Regina (Market Server), Ayoub (DRA), and Mary-Ann (Market Server). Some of the responsibilities strongly advised to follow are always keeping the guests happy, and serving orders. Some of the shorterm/longterm goals followed in this department would also be doing your work and not others on mistake because all that's doing is getting staffed confused. Some of the challenges for the staff that we experienced would be remembering the orders and another thing we got to see was the employee's arguing with each other because they were getting frustrated. With all that happening the outcomes of these situations would be the servers getting tables mixed and the experience that would help me do this job would be keeping my patience. Overall what i did yesterday was server some of the Ice Cubes and picked up the tables after the guest were done eating. What i didn't like was everyone getting frustrated with each other and taking other people's jobs. Something i never expected to see was the employers cursing at each other. My Plans of actions that i think can help the employee's would be taking your time, Relaxing, and not to rush yourself over petty things that can be done. In total yesterday was a few more steps down the road to me accomplishing my Internship.

3rd Official Day @ Marriott

Last Week Tuesday October 21st the LMP team and i had another important experienced day. When we arrived we punched in to recieve our hours, so that we can recieve our valid certification at the end of the year, and then soon after we made our was with the tourist debbie to view the banquet department for the second time. They paired us up with one of the Banquet Servers to help prepare the banquet hall for the meeting that was suppose to be taken place 12:30 that afternoon. By the time 12:30 rolled around the banquet hall was successfully prepared with all the set tables and the food a couple of feet from the door, lined up cheapest to expensive. One of the biggest challenges that day that me and the staff recieved was running out of food and keeping the guest's happy. But being that everyone was cooperative and was working it wasn't much of a challenge for us to achieve. But as a whole October 21st, was another successful day on the road to me fully completing my internship.

Albany Marriott 1st Day Internship

Hey Blogger,

Yesterday Tuesday, October 14th was was the 2nd official day of the LMP team attending the internship. But officially my 1st day because i was absent the 1st day of the internship due to not being prepared in uniform. When we arrived we entered through the associates door and soon after met with one of the captains in the Banquet department of the Marriott. The captain that took us on the tour was, Debbie and she's been employed there for 13 years. She then showed us the different banquet halls and how they are split up with moving walls depending on the function in each room. She also stated how with all the rooms combined the Albany Marriott's full banquet room can hold up to 1500 guests. The GSS at the Albany Marriott is 100%. The most important goal in my opinion in whole would be, doing faster work so the team can leave at a reasonable hour. I also believe that, if you have a team of dedicated workers everything will tend to go smoothly and there will not be that many complications in the workplace.

Orientation

Tuesday, October 7th, was one of the biggest starting days all year, for me and the LMP team. Unfortunately I couldn’t be a part of the awesome experience due to a personal issue outside of school leading myself not to have made it to Lodging class on Tuesday. The rest of the team attended the Albany Marriott located on Wolf Road in Colonie and had to dress up in uniform to be apart of the Marriott’s Internship. Specifically we had to dress in a navy blue polo shirt with either tan or black khaki’s, I will have my uniform by Friday October 10th. When the team arrived they entered into the Associate entrance that was located at the very back of the hotel opposite of the front entrance. Then the LMP team was greeted by the General Manager, Thomas Olsen. From feedback from the lodging team I was told that, most of the managers that were employed at the Albany Marriott, went to college for different careers. After my classmates were greeted, they walked to Salon D. Mr. Olsen’s and Jen, his assistant spoke about the Spirit to Serve Basics and the different concepts of the Albany Marriott. They then watched a 10 minute video and discussed further on the duties given on an everyday basis at the Marriott and met the different department managers then after took a tour. They got to tour the lobby, some of the guest rooms, restaurant, Boardroom, Empire Room, Fitness Center, and also the Chat lounge. Basically all together it was a awesome experience and I wish I could’ve made it, so with that being said I will be attending the next visit to the Albany Marriott on Tuesday October 14th.
